12/17, Open Letter

Dear everyone,

We officially half-way through the month, and less than two weeks away from the end of 2017! Two finals and a couple interviews later, I’m finally ready to start enjoying holiday break!

The holidays this year are pretty lowkey for me- I’m back at home and don’t have plans to go anywhere super exciting, but I am looking forward to spending time catching up with old friends and my family. And, this year since I’m making all of the gifts that I’m giving to people, I get to spend a ton of time crafting too!

I think that DIY gifts are underrated- I love shopping for gifts too, but making gifts has so many added benefits! Not only does it mean adding a personal touch to the things that you give other people, but it also means having control over what the gift looks like, how much you spend on it, and whether it is something that the person you are giving it to will actually find useful! Starting tomorrow, I’m going to try to share one new gift idea every day for my fellow crafters and DIY-lovers to try!

Besides that, I’m also going to be work on improving this blog over the next two weeks. So far its been a great ride, but as I’ve been working on this blog over the last 8 months, I’ve realized that if it really is going to be centered around mental health, then I need to work on the aspects of it that promote community building.

In the next three months, I’m going to try and do that by inviting guest bloggers and guest blogging for other people, by posting more often not only on here, but also on my Facebook and Instagram pages (if you are on either, follow for regular updates!) I’m also going to try and get on Pinterest, so that I can share some of the things that I try in my own daily life that can help improve both mental and physical health. I’m also going to try and post on a weekly basis on this blog- one open letter and at least one blog post.

I’ve really liked writing letters to to you all over the last few weeks, and I think that people have really enjoyed reading them. Some people have even written back, and I love that! I got to chat with Rita, who wants to encourage others to give food to end World Hunger. Since I’m a global health student at university, I really enjoyed talking to her about how complex of an issue world hunger actually is. We both learned things- I was able to tell her about my experiences in learning about what causes world hunger and what factors go into it, and she was able to share her idea on how she things we can work to end it- one of the ideas she had (which she made a video on) was spending less money on presents so that more consumer money could be spent on food to provide to those who are hungry.

But anyways, in the next few months, I’m hoping to post more regularly so that I can regularly hear from all of you, and you all can regularly hear from me! Also, if anyone reading this ever wants to experience what its like to write for a blog, get in touch with me! I’d love to hear from you. It can be about literally anything- because almost everything we do influences our mental health, and our mental health influences everything we do!

That’s all I have for now, but I can’t wait to show you guys my DIY ideas, starting tomorrow! Also, share with me the projects you all try!
